Indian passport surrender

Mine reached them on Sep 8. Hoping for the best!

What if the Indian Passport has only Given Name and in the Canadian Passport the Name has been split correctly into Given Name and Surname ?

It think it should be fine, but to be on the safer side, my suggestion would be that you get an affidavit

I have a change of name certificate from the Ontario Office of Registrar General. Would a copy of that be enough?

The certificate states

• Old Name : Firstname Middlename Lastname
• New Name: Lastname, Firstname Middlename

Basically splitting my name into Surname, Givenname

Might work, I hope others on this thread can chime in with their experience if they had a similar scenario.

Did you have to take appointment for the Toronto BLS? I dont see any available days for appointment in September and October for BLS Toronto location.

Yes, i did. I kept on checking 2-3 times a day and got lucky. Use the 'Passport' option for appointment of surrender certificate.

"The status doesn't change in Govt. Website after status "Surrender certificate has been printed", you have to check in BLS website after that, the status will change there to "In Transit from Consulate" and then finally to "Dispatched via Courier". I got it delivered by post exactly 1 week after the status on Govt. Website changed to "Surrender certificate has been printed"

But someone else also said who got theirs done at Vancouver consulate last month, that his status showed '"Surrender certificate has been printed" for 6 days before changed to "In transit to BLS".

Yes thats fine..
But before you go double check with BLS if they are even accepting applications for surrender

Technically surrender & OCI are not visas. But it has not been clarified anywhere until now.

There is a FB page - "Indian Passport, PCC & OCI Services - USA & Canada." where immigration agent has posted this.

Great news that you got your surrender certificate!

I think you can apply for OCI now with that certificate. They have only halted issues visas now.

HCI don't seem to have published any email id. All phone nos they shared on the website goes to BLS whose automated voice response says we don't have control over processing.

My status changed to "In Transit from Consulate General to BLS Centre"
