Hey!

While filling up the postal code in the surrender certificate, do i keep the space -A1B 2C3 or without space- A1B2C3? I heard ppl are getting rejected either way? This is for BLS Mississauga?
Do it as it is in your address proof. It should be exactly like that upto the last space.

I did not leave the space in between during my SC application in Oct 2022 submitted in person at Brampton

Hello, I've gathered the documents as per checklist and ready with the application package. However I can't find much information in BLS Toronto website on how to proceed with postal application for Surrender Certificate. I fall under Toronto jurisdiction and curious to know how I can arrange for a pickup and drop off service and the payments I need to make accordingly. Can anyone please guide? Thanks.

You need to call BLS and book it. Online facility not available for it.

Can one submit the surrender certificate through a walk in without a pre-scheduled appointment? Also, how long does it typically take for the certificate to come by?

Hey I submitted my application in BLS brampton on 20 September
When can i expect to receive my SC,
I am planning to go india this October

I have applied and its almost the same date.

My postal application was picked on Sep 9 and delivered to bls on Sep 11.
Portal updated on Sep 16 as application date.

Current status in Passport site is "surrender certificate is under review at indian embassy/consulate" from yesterday Sep 23.

Any movement for you?

Edit: I just checked and got the update 'Surrender certificate has been printed.'

Hi, I am expecting to receive the Canadian passport by the end of this month. Need to travel to India mid-Dec. As I won't be able to get OCI on time, is it okay to surrender the Passport in India and apply for OCI once back? Also, do we need to apply for Entry Visa or e-Visa and can it be applied for without flight tickets? Thanks in advance.

You can apply for OCI once you are back. If you want to apply for OCI in India(after six months of living there) you need Entry visa. Otherwise e-visa is better option.
You don't need tickets while applying for e-visa.

Thank you. I intend to come back in a month so I will be applying for an OCI here in Canada.
I wanted to check if I can surrender and get my passport surrender certificate in India or is it better to apply for it in Canada.

If everything goes smoothly, the process in India is quicker (1 day) and more affordable (Rs.500). However, since you're only going for a month, I wouldn't risk potential delays if any issues arise. Ultimately, the decision is yours.

I did this for my son in Kolkata. It took me awfully long time ~4 weeks. I had to send multiple escalation emails to get it in 4 weeks. I also read about 1 day processing in Delhi and Bangalore RPOs, but for me the reality was very different and painful. Had to make 5-6 trips to the RPO Kolkata.
