I am planning to take IELTS test soon, for academic purposes. I passed this test before I went to study for a MA abroad, so I am not afraid of that test. But, I would like to ask if this test (Academic IELTS) can be used for immigration purposes, so that I do not need to take IELTS again.
Thank you in advance.

"When all else fails, read the instructions"
1. In www.cic.gc.ca only general IELTS is accepted.

hi!!!!!if u want to go for studies only academic module is acceptable but for immigration both modules are acceptable. if u aleardy done academic you dont need to reapeat it. although recommended prefrence is general, and it is bit eaiser than academic.
Officials at CIC follow rule and instructions as check list. Please read instruction noted at CIC web site and don't go by "Individual" preference. All the best
