I got my IELTS result today. I had to get 16 points out of IELTS in order to qualify for Immigration. The test went bad but by the grace of God, I cleared this obstacle! Here are the results:

L: 8.0
R: 8.5
W: 7.5
S: 7.0

Overall band: 8.0 :)

Hello ammaartahir,

My huby is taking IELTS @ British Council Chennai this 21st :), would you mind sharing your experiences with the exams and some tips?

Thanks, and BTW band 8 is a great score and we are looking forward to have the same :)

Also what's your location and NOC? Are you applying under the FSW1?

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.

Well Indira, I'm applying under the NOC-7216; location of the test was Lahore, Pakistan

I couldn't get time for preparation for the test due to my hectic routine. I just took 4 or 5 full practice tests and the following is what I've learned:

Listening Section:

- Give your full concentration and focus to the conversations. Don't stuck on any one question rather try to go with the flow and you should have the same pace of interpretation and answering different questions as the conversation moves on. I repeat: DON'T STUCK ON ANY SINGLE QUESTION IF YOU'VE MISSED IT, IT WOULD RUIN YOUR TEST!! btw, I made the same mistake out of instinct to be perfect and had to bear the brunt in form of 03 blank answers! :(

- Effectively utilize the time provided in the beginning of every section to read and digest as many questions as you can

- Read questions carefully and if a number of options are given for a question, read ALL of them before answering!

- Only write 2 words in answer sheet if you're asked to write 2 words in the question. The same applies to 3 words' answers

- Write grammatically correct answer. For example, if the answer is Mrs. Smith, write answer in this form rather than MRS SMITH or mrs smith or Mrs. smith, etc. It should be correct grammatically!!

Reading Section:

- Divide the time for all three sections but give the most time to the Section-III as it is the most difficult.I would suggest give at least 25 min to it

- Read questions carefully!!

- Again, the answers should be grammatically correct

- Read all the given options carefully before answering a question

Writing Section:

- Give around 15-20 min to Letter writing and rest to the Essay writing
- Make different passages while writing essays and all provided information should be grammatically correct and coherent. In addition, use relevant vocabulary
- Do not, in any case, write lesser words than those asked by the examiner

Speaking Section:

- Be confident and look into the eyes of the examiner while speaking
- Provide a little more info than asked by the examiner

In the end, best of luck to you and your hubby... do pray :)

Wow.. thanks ammaartahir, yes we pray to get things in place :) Is there a link/data to correlate the number of right/ wrong answers for calculating the bands? If one get's 33 answers right out of 40, what would be the band?

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.
