My partner has been sponsored under family class by his brother who is a candian citizen and landed and got his PR on October 2014.
His brother sponsored their mother and him as a dependent child. When he got his PR he was 22 years old. Now he is not working and his brother not helping him financially. Can he ask for financial assistance from Ontario works without harming his brother? Or there is a year limit where he need to wait ? Please help

He has to enroll in a course program to accredit his degree as it is not from Canada so he need assistance for the time being

The CRA will ask the sponsor to pay back the money. The undertaking for dependents and accompanying family members of sponsored parents and grandparents is 20 years.

That is not a reason to be unemployed. He can work other jobs in the meantime.

If they landed in 2014, I am assuming the app was submitted under the prior rules, which means the brother is liable for any welfare your partner claims until 2024.

I assume you haven’t lived together for over a year or he wouldn’t have been able to be sponsored. Agree. Lots of jobs around while he studies. Supporting yourself has to be the priority. Welfare rates for a single able bodied man is pretty minimal to begin with.

Why would he not work? Financial Assistance is for emergencies and those who can't actually work. He can at least get a part time job while he is in a course. That's what I did when I was in school
