Please note that the normal processing time for applications for these documents is as follows:
Work Permits: 20 weeks from receipt of a complete application
Study Permits: 8 to 12 weeks from receipt of a complete application
Permanent Resident Travel Document: 8 weeks from receipt of a complete application
We understand your concerns. However, we are not able to finalize processing by the date requested. We appreciate your patience and we will contact you once processing has been finalized.

there had been longer time periods in the past. The CIC website still shows 6 months but the local website has been updated.
and i have also confirmed the timings from the embassy through email.

And did u get any recommendation letter from ur company? Am planning to get one...
My brother is in the same boat as you were...his study visa for May session has been rejected with same reason -course not reasonable in light of previous study..
I am planning to advise him the same, to reapply in next session by adding SOP to his application.
I think you are flying to Canada on 28th, so wish you all the best dude.
