I have an approved LMO for a Live-in caregiver who is already employed in Canada. I am now told it will take 2 months to get a work permit. Can we get her work permit at a port of entry or do we have to apply online?
If the applicant is a TFW in Canada the application must be sent to a visa office outside Canada, for him/her to qualify under LCP. If the applicant is from a country that does not need visa to enter Canada/US, the applicant can apply at a POE but must have had the medicals from a DMP before proceeding to a POE. IMHO, better to send application to the US (NYC or LA consulates). If the applicant is already under LCP, and s/he has valid status (WP still valid), s/he can try applying from the POE. May or may not be the best experience talking to an officer at the POE explaining why the application is not sent to Vegreville.
