Hi! i currently have a live-in caregiver visa. i want to when is the best time for me to apply for an open work permit and permanent residency?
thanks!
ive been here for a year and 2 months.. i'll be 2 years on June 2015..
how long is the process for the open permit and can i already work as a non-caregiver right after i get my open permit?

As of now applicants of 2014 dont get their OWP but received an approved in principle letter after 3 months if you are single. Some single applicants even get their PR within 6months timeframe. Once you received your OWP then you can apply and work anywhere.
cuz someone told me that i have to extend my contract for one more year after my 2year contract is up. i was kinda worried about that. any thoughts about it?

If you will be working on the same employer you don't need to extend your work permit. The only thing is that if your work permit expires before you received your open work permit you will no longer be covered by the provincial health insurance. It is advisable to renew your work permit because you should have a valid status when you apply for PR.
