If their PR application is in process and they are laid off, and then they secure a new job offer within three months (which is fairly quick), does that mean they would still have to wait an additional four months(work permit processing time) before obtaining a new closed work permit to work for the new employer?
This would create a seven-month gap in their employment.

What stage are you at and what stream did you apply under? I'm in somewhat of the same situation with the only difference being i have an open work permit.
