Hey Everyone thought my post might give you some hope on your own progress.
Tuesday, Nov16th I got the email requesting my passport. Wed, Nov 17th I flew down to Los Angeles and Thurs, Nov 18th I got my PR visa. Friday, Nov 19th I flew back to Canada and landed at the border officially a Permanent Resident of Canada! It took 5 minutes in the immigration office at Edmonton Intl Airport. The whole process took 2 1/2 months. We applied Sept 1, 2010 and I landed Nov 19, 2010. I'm amazed, happy, and very grateful that it all worked out so well, with no problems whatsoever, and so quickly! If anyone needs help with their process let me know!

They do not - unless your medical expires the next day or something like that. But the official answer is that they do not, and you must mail it in and wait about a month.
If anyone has sent their passport to the NYC Consulate, how long did it take to get it back? I am really, really hoping to have mine back before the holidays (they got it there December 1st).
They turned mine around quickly. Eleven business days after they received it, they put it back in the mail for me. (Maybe the mail is just slower, this close to Xmas?)
Just spoke to CanadaPost and they said that my passport was never signed for in New York, so it may or may not have been delivered. I am emailing the New York Consulate to see if they even received my passport... SO I guess I am not traveling anywhere for the holidays.
I just wanted all to know that I finally landed on Dec 23! Today I went to get my SIN# and applied for the health card (which will arrive in 3 months!).
I am looking for an advise on what to do after paying the RIV fee online for my vehicle. Anyone can point me to a right direction?
So it looks like my passport was stamped at the NYC Consulate and sent back to me in the beginning of December via regular mail.... I'm getting worried that it got lost in transit!

And thanks for the thread!! (Positive note I hope)
I've been transferred to Detroit as of today, and I am praying for a quick turn-arround.
Will pay the PR Fee tomorrow (the $490) and send them the receipt by fax top detroit with my file number, and by mail to mississauga, that's the correct way right?
My son's application (end of May 2010) was transferred to NY from Buffalo in (approx) August last year. Since then he's heard his CSQ wasn't passed on so that had to be rectified. They also notified that he needed an FBI clearance but he has never lived in the US. I think that was about September or October last year. He is still waiting and is very much in the dark about what is happening. Is anyone else waiting whose application was transferred to NY about the same time? Any opinions or advice welcome.
I think that they requested the FBI report simply out of habit since its a US office. I would send a fax or case-specific email to the office and try to get a response. But if its been that long and he hasn't heard from them, they are probably waiting for the FBI report to come in, so I would get on that ASAP just in case. Either way, some communication is a must to get this thing to move forward!
