Now -a- days you will get cheap appartments any where, rents are low due to economic slowdown.

Choose location, North, South, East or West many appartments are vacant.

Century park and Southgate are good locations for new comers.

If you have family, better to avoid 118 street(downtown) and east/southeast area.

118th street has advantages too -- it is walkable, and has all sorts of food, second hand stores, and other services easily reachable on foot, especially good if one family member is at home and doesn't drive. My wife and I lived there for almost two years when we first moved to Edmonton, and I think it has real advantages. I would rather have been there than out in some suburb on the edge of town.

Sorry, its 118 AVE to avoid and northeast side due to crime rates and not so good neighborhood.

Its really difficult to get an apartment for 2 months... they usually take 6 months deposit. I'll ask from my downtown peeps.. let's see
