@Canada9, welcome to Canada and all the best with the job search. Things are a bit tough right now as you have probably seen or heard. With a lot of layoffs and belt-tightening across a majority of industries, it is a very competitive market.
Provided you have some odd-jobs/survival jobs to keep up with basic expenses and avoid dipping into your savings, use the job boards like indeed.ca, workopolis etc as much as you can. Someone on this thread has mentioned Toastmasters club. This group can be a great networking opportunity as well as provide assistance. Please refer to http://d42tm.org/ for additional information around the Alberta/Saskatchewan club.
Most interviews in North America have a small technical component, but most of the questions would follow the STAR or behavior-based questions (situation, task, action, result). There are several websites which document a list of common questions asked. It would be highly recommended to review such lists so you can draft a response rather than get caught off-guard and botch an opportunity.

Good luck to you. You may also approach immigrant serving agencies in Edmonton and get details about government funded bridging programs. You may also get a decent Monthly income support while you pursue the program. However, these programs are highly competitive and may be difficult to get admission. Also you have to get your CLB English assessment done prior to applying to these programs.
Anyone coming from India to Calgary / Edmonton in May last week or June first week? My mother-in-law will be travelling for the first...she is fit and 50 yrs old. Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
Regards
Amit
I am new in this group. Good to see people who will be living in same state soon.
My husband is living in Alberta, Edmonton and i have been advised by him that ALberta is a place with too many job opportunities and as compare to other states, more facilities are available for new settlers.
