Hello,
I'm sponsoring my husband for his PR in the Family Class, and he has just received the request to have a medical exam done, including the medical exam, chest x-ray, and bloodwork.
He got an appointment right away because there was a cancellation, but they told him it was going to cost $630- $300 for the hospital, and $330 for the doctor.
I just wanted to see if this is normal, it seems high to me, especially considering he pays MSP, and routine bloodwork and x-rays would normally be covered.
Holy hell, so almost $1000 total? That's not right at all. You did call a panel physician, correct? It is somewhere close to $400 for everything in Kelowna, and one of the docs in the Vancouver area apparently charges half that.
I just paid $270 for everything in Vancouver. There's loads of places here that do it and all quote between $265-$290. I paid $130 for the medical part (height/weight/eyes/general health), 75$ for blood test and 65$ for X-rays.

As other's have said, that's way too much. If you're around Vancouver, I'd recommend Dr. Cheryl Anderson. It costs (give or take 5 bucks, can't remember) $275 for the full medical and you can get an appointment in about two weeks.
Sorry, the total is $630, still way higher than what you guys are saying, I wonder why they are allowed to do that?? We are in northern BC, in a smaller town. He is going to Vancouver in a month, but the letter stated it needed to be done in 30, also, he will only be there for a Saturday/Sunday. Hmmm I think I'll have to do some phoning around. We only have one panel physician in town. Thanks very much for your feedback everyone!
*30 days within receiving the letter, although I've read that we could contact Immigration and explain if it takes longer than 30 days.
Another question, if anyone knows, any idea how long after the medical might he get approved for residency? A friend said it's the last step, and I know it is different timing for everyone, just curious.
Thanks,
Jen

I guess they are taking advantage of the lack of competition. That's probably why the one in Kelowna is still more expensive than the ones in the Vancouver area.
Hello !
Wow !!!! It's really too much !
I made mine in Burnaby, I payed 200 for the doctor and blood test and 100 for x ray. Very quick appointment and the x ray clinic was right beside the doctor. Everything was done in 1 morning.
Dong
I'm seeing a provider in Surrey this week and it should be $265 CAD total. Which is CRAZY cheap compared to the closest provider here in the States which is $395 USD. Yeesh.
