I want to apply for PR in CEC and i have been working in canada for last 4 years on a project. But I was not on the payroll of a canadian company. I was on payroll of US company.Due to full time work engagement in canada, I submitted my T4 for last 2 years.
Does this work experience qualify under this catagory or do i need to be on canadian company payroll to apply under CEC?
I think you are eligible. You have a valid work permit and you have filed your T4s as well. However it is best you call up CIC and confirm its the case.
1. You should have been paying taxes. No where it is written in CEC docs that one requires to work FOR A CANADIAN employer. Rather it says you must have been working IN CANADA and in a skilled job. So provide evidence of that.
2. Your job should not be part time, nor should it be part of university T.A. etc. kind of role. As long as your documents prove that it is and you have been living and working in canada and paying taxes, i believe you are pretty good. Also experience from last 3 years would be counted. So make sure the docs you submit are latest.
I just found a thread that contains answer to your question. It is an email exchange between cic and an immigration lawyer. Basically it does say that you qualify but have to demonstrate that you were in an employer - employee relationship and not being self employed or free lancer. This might be a little difficult if the employer is not a well known company.
