Hi,

Here's the official list of SPP participating educational institutes.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/backgrounders/2010/2010-01-28.asp

As you can see.. most of them are colleges.

To apply in most of the recognized Canadian university, for a M.S programme or otherwise...you will need to apply under GENERAL (UNIVERSITY) category, and NOT SPP.

At the time of application for visa under General (Univ.) category, it is strongly reccomended (as per CIC guidelines):
Copy of an Educational Loan from an Indian Chartered Bank equivalent to at least 80% of tuition +living + travel expenses for one academic year (normally, first year's tuition, unless already paid, plus $8000).

So, get a loan matching the amount, to show your financial strength. it's the best way.

In my personal opinion, you MAY manage to earn enough for your living expenses, doing part time jobs...BUT it's impossible to earn enough to pay your tuition fees working part time jobs. You will need to pay 2nd year tuition fees from your pocket or take another loan. Alternatively, you may also consider taking loan together of 2 years tuition fees+1 year living expenses. (consult others/banks too)

Memorial university in Newfoundland and Labrador, Univ. of Saskatchewan and University of Regina has some of the lowest tuition fees for international students, among Canadian universities. Check out the participating recognized list of eductaional insititues, go to the individuial university websites, and search an appropriate programme matching your requirements. (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/participants.asp).

Start searching, and applying for a good M.S programme.

You can never collect enough money by part time jobs to pay second year fees. It is just impossible. Here I am a citizen of Canada struggling to pay $ 480 per month as a rent by all means of jobs full or part or quarter (what ever you call it) still running out of mighty dollar. Come to Canada with full tuition in hand.

So,major changes in my plans dudes,as i have only 10 lakhs loan, i have decided to apply 1 year graduate certification course in lambton college(INTERNET PROGRAMMING AND DATABASE MANAGEMENT), after that i m planning to extend my study permit to do my masters from there(in university). y because means

1,i have no sufficient money to do my masters as of now.
2,scored less in ielts 6 band overall ..so its risky to bag a admission from the univ and visa approval even if i granted for ESL program
3.waiting for jan intake, improvin ielts score again is not at all work at my view of point..

thatsy i chose this path(have 6 bands overall,scored above 75% in both 10th,12th,have 10 lakhs loan,MY tuition fee-11,500$)..so its comes under SPP

NOW THIS MAKES ME SOME QUERIES GUYS..

1, IF i want to apply masters after my completion of 1 yr grad cert, Do I NEED TO TAKE IELTS(6.5) AGAIN TO APPLY FOR THE UNIV.

2,IS 1 year graduation certificate falls under DIPLOMA?

3.1 year grad certificate + MAsters/DIploma will allow me 3 years work permit there?

help me guys..ur advice needed!!!

Hi,

1. Yes. Most Universities require atleast 6.5 overall IELTS score(with 6 in all bands) for admission to their Master degree programmes. Some may require even higher..like 7 or 7.5

2. Certificate courses are of lowest level. There may be some advanced certificate courses. Then comes Diploma. Then Advanced diploma. Then Bachelor's degree. Then PG certificate/diploma or Graduate certificate/diploma courses...and then at the top level Master's degree and Phds.

3. Yes, If it's form the recognized college/Universities.

Mine is

Credential Type: Ontario Graduate Certificate 1 year- 2 semesters , new course by lambton colg.

1,One graduate certification + A masters degree(ONE YEAR OR 2 YEAR ?) gives 3 years work permit..So, how much do I need to score in this grad cert..? Do they (UNIVersity) look my cert marks? If I scored more in that, Will they discount my IELTS?

Or

2,Taking IELTS while on studying there is fair choice to apply masters ?

Hi,

As I said... Graduate Certificate=PG certificate.

1. Any 1-2 years Graduate certificate+ Any 1-2 years Master degree (both credentials has to be from a recognized college/University, participating in PGWP scheme--- http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/participants.asp )... will give you 3 years PGWP. So... after this 1 year Graduate Certificate, you can purue either 1 year or 2 years masters. Doesn't matter... will make you eligible for a 3 years PGWP.

Usually, most Master degree programmes of recognized Canadian public universities have high admission standards and are competitive. They require minimum 4 years Bachelor's degree (or 3 years+ 1-2 years graduate level degree or Master degree form India/other places) ... and anywhere from minimum 60-80% marks in your graduation/ previous degree/ last 2 years studied, all depending on the individual Master programmes/ University, along with other criteria specific to that particular Master degree. They may or may not consider your Graduate certificate marks.. depending upon your score in graduation and/or the type of degree/complete profile. You will need to contact individual University departments, tell them about your profile...and enquire about their specific eligibility.

Language requirements (i.e IELTS) is separate from your academic requirements (applies for any type of degree/certificate/diploma..be it college or University), and you will need to score the minimum IELTS marks required by the individual programmes. There is no relation with your higher marks in any degree and hence there will be no relaxation for your IELTS requirements, even if you have top notch academic record. You will have to score the minimum IELTS marks for that specific programme.. Sometimes, the educational institutions may consider lower IELTS score, if the candidate joins a preparatory ESL/English language class, before the start of their study programme. Again, you will need to contact individual Universities.

2. You can prepare and appear for IELTS, while studying your current Graduate certificate, and then apply for Master's..if you are eligible.

Best of luck Vijai ;D ;D

@thank you harry_aussie,

I have read in some posts in this forum..i m really confused.. some champs posts that,, 1 yr degree/PGdip + 1 yr PG dip/cert only gives 3 yr WP not 1 yr grad cert + masters deg/Diploma gives 3 yr WP..it only gives 2 yrs work permit..I need Clarification tiger007, harry_aussie :-\

1 year Grad Certification/diploma + 1~2 Masters Degree {OR } 1 year Degree + 1 year grad certification/diploma Will allow 3 year work permit... :-[

as short, at first degree and then only dip/cert will give 3 yr PSWP.

:o also give the equations for the eligibility for 3 yr PSWP..it l be useful for many as like me..
AND HOPEFULLY I APPLIED 1 YEAR GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN LAMBTON COLLEGE :D

reply needed guys!!! :o
as per my case,

Masters Degree/Pg dip + PG cert/diploma => 3 years or

PG dip/cert + masters Degree/PGDip => 3 years

and I cleared in one thing 2 PG grad cert after one by one will not give 3 yrs PSWP.. 8) but this dip/degree/cert confuses me really alot..official explanation from canada immig is in the peak of confusion( after having ??? obtained) for me about this clarification..

Hi,

Don't break your sweat on this. Man..you are worrying too much.

As per CIC...
it's is clearly mentioned that those doing 2 academic year/ 4 sem/16months (of actual study) course will be eligible for a 3 years Post Grad Work Permit (PGWP).

Also,
If the official length of your program of study is:

less than eight months
you are not eligible for this program
less than two years but more than eight months
you may get a work permit for a period no longer than the length of your program of study (for example, if you studied for nine months, a work permit may be issued for a period of nine months)
two years or more
a work permit may be issued for three years

So..do any 2 years full time recognized course(be it college or univ)..you will surely be eligible for 3 years PGWP.

Now.. those who do a 2 sem/8months/1 academic year course..as per 4 sem rule..should be eligible for a 1 year PGWP..but many people say... that they will only get an 8months PGWP. But..I'm assuring you... most chances that...they will get a full 1 year PGWP, because the official length of these Ontario graduate certificates are 1 year.

These things also depend on the number of credit hours studied/ course load in your cert/masters/diploma degree... and the VO issuing the PGWP.

Now, many a times 12-14 months Master degree holders get full 3 years PGWP..because of their course load.

So..instead of confusing yourself... just remember... if you do any course+a Master's degree(from a recognized University 1 or 2 years)... you will surely 1000% get 3 years PGWP.

If you do 2, 1 year-PG cert courses consecutively...which will add upto total 4 sem/16months/2 academic year..should also most probably give you a 3 years PGWP...

So..as per your plan..if you pursue a Masters degree after this PG cert..then 1000% you will be eligible for a 3 years PGWP.

So relax!
