Hi, I wanted to visit India, but I'm on a closed work permit that is valid until 2023 and was terminated from my job. I know I can legally stay but not work in Canada till my current work permit expires. I was wondering if I can leave Canada for some time and then will I be allowed to enter with the same TRV I have?

You should be able to come back on your current work permit (and as long as you hold a valid TRV). There is some possibility that IRCC may ask you for proof of employment or a letter from your employer. However I think the chances of that are probably low if you are on a closed work permit.

thanks for replying. In the worst-case scenario, if I was asked and couldn't provide the proof of employment, is there anything else I can do? any other forms or something they could help me pass that

I guess you could show your original employment letter / contract and pay stubs.

When did you actually start working and had you been living in Canada for a long time? Will you keep your housing while you got to India? Due to covid you need to show proof that you currently have a job or that you are returning to your established home.

thanks for replying. I started working 2 years before and living in Canada for more than 3 years with a closed work permit in Quebec. I was planning to move out of rent when I leave for India and be there was close to 6 months (owing to a personal reason). And it looks like that's not a good idea.

Very hard to say because travel restrictions may change in 6 months. I do think that after 6 months abroad you may be asked about whether you are currently employed in Canada.
