Hi all, it's our first post in this forum. Our application reached NS on 7 Aug and no AOR received so far. So we decided to call IRCC to check if a temp file no. is available. Very luckily, we were able to talk to an agent who told us that our application was received and gave us a temp file no. Now hoping that the AOR will come soon.
For your ref, after calling 1-888-242-2100 (the IRCC hotline), you can dial 2 1 0 to talk to an agent.
No your lawyer will not get anything if you call cic regarding anything on your file . He just normal correspondence which is sent by cic like AOR, medical, additional documents.

I think whether you applied DIY or via a lawyer doesn't matter. When we called, we were asked the name, date and place of birth of the sponsor, then the agent came back double checking the address and email of the sponsor, the name of the applicant, phone number which we used to call the hotline. Then the agent located our file and informed us of the temp no. You can call the hotline by yourself.
Also, if you call, pls do it early. We started ringing at 9:03 am and waited for 20 min to get through.

Anyone have any hot tips on calling in to IRCC from the United States? I’d like to get a temporary file number, but I can’t call from outside of Canada per my understanding.
Let me know. Thanks!

No tips to give you, won't work, I tried Skype with a Canadian VPN number and a couple other things. One option that I have heard that worked is a 3 way call if you know somebody on this side of the border that you could link a call through.

If you are PR you can only visit for 2-3 weeks maximum and then you have to return. You can stay outside of Canada otherwise application will be refused.
