I am currently uploading documents for my Express Entry (CEC) application and I wanted to clarify something. My partner is a Canadian citizen who resides in Canada and is therefore listed as an unaccompanying spouse in my application. Within his supporting documents, it asks for "Family Member Proof of Status", where it says:
"You must provide a copy of your family member's Canadian Citizenship or Canadian immigration status document (e.g. Canadian passport, Permanent Resident Card, Study Permit, or Work Permit)."
I am unsure who "family member" includes here. I am listed as his common-law partner (British citizen, residing in Canada), and he has a mother, father, brother and sister who live in Canada (all Canadian citizens, residing in Canada). Does this mean I need to upload my work permit, AND copies of passports for his Canadian family members?
Similarly, am I required to upload proof of relationship to my mother, father, brother and sister? They all reside in the UK and are not accompanying me. They are simply listed in my family information section.
Thanks for your reply. I did wonder that. However, for my partner's supporting documents section, it asks for two documents, as below.
[Partner's name]: Supporting Documents
Passports: "You must submit a legible copy of your valid travel document which you will use to travel."
Family member proof of status: "You must provide a copy of your family member's Canadian Citizenship or Canadian immigration status document (e.g. Canadian passport, Permanent Resident Card, Study Permit, or Work Permit)."
So I found this confusing. Are you saying I should just upload his Canadian passport for both these fields? Thanks again!
Yes - one slot is essentially the ID document and the other is proof of status. In your case they happen to be the same document, but they needn't be necessarily.
Just one thing to double-check: did you get any points for family members in Canada under the CRS points system?
Oh I see, thanks for clarifying that. No, I did not get any points for family members; I have listed my partner as unaccompanying, as he is a Canadian citizen already residing in Canada. Does that sound about right?
Edit: in my own supporting documents section, it asks for my family member's proof of status again. I suppose I will just upload his passport three times then.
Thanks for showing me this. I just went to double-check that I am not receiving any points for my partner's Canadian siblings by clicking "preview my score" in my application. By "PR or Canadian Sibling" it indicates "0". Is this the right indication?
In which case, I shouldn't need to upload my partner's family members' Canadian passports, only his own?
I just find it strange that there are two fields in which I have to upload his passport for proof of status. One in my "family member proof of status" section and one in his "family member proof of status" section. Of course, I am happy to do so if that's what they need. I just want to make sure I am getting this right.
Hi there, I am in the exact same situation with you. So what did you upload to "Family Member Proof of Status" in your supporting document section, just your partner's passport or also your families'? My family are also not in Canada and will not come to Canada.
Also, what did you upload to "Family Member Proof of Status" in your partner's supporting document section? Do we need to upload our partner's siblings and parents passports?
