I thought to start a thread for international student applicants who are enrolled in a PhD program in Canada (or graduated from a Canadian PhD program) and filed Immigration Application after 5 Nov, 2011, so it can be a help for people to talk about immigration updates during the process.
Let us share the story, explain what you upto during your wait. Also post your current timeline so we can have an idea of each other progress and lets help each others. I can create an excel database of the applicant's various data once we receive some applicants.
Stay Happy and hopeful!

PS: I will be applying myself probably within next 1 month and will share my timeline right after filing the application. If you are going to file your application may be in next 1/2/3 months, share that here. Let's make a journey together.
I don't understand this number.
Can you explain it. Whether the total number of PhD students for only 2011 or the total number of international students all over is 3600.
My fiance is on PhD.

CIC has updated the total PhD applicant as 3600 on 7 Nov, 2011 (where as cap is 1000). I hope that's just a typo...
Fingers crossed!
Applications received from PhD applicants:
Applications received toward the overall cap: 3,600 of 1,000 as of November 7, 2011
What I believe, that 3600 number is a typo. It's actually the number of applicant since 1 June, 2011 in 29 job categories. I personally don't believe 3600 PhD students submitted their applications on a single day. Moreover, CIC will only process first 1000 applications. Why would they put 3600 number there? Any thought seniors?
CIC website says that I should mail my PR application to Centralized Intake Office (CIO) in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada (instead of Visa Office). But during an information session last week in my school, a CIC representative told us to mail our application (PhD Stream) directly to the visa office. She said that the mailing instruction on the website is incorrect and it will be updated soon.
