I wonder if we are allowed to Anglicized our original legal name from our native countries into something more easily pronounceable for other people in Canada?
I don't mean to change my Family Name, but just to add a Common English Name, like, "Tiffany, Joseph, George" etc , into my legal name.
I have heard it was a common practice in Canada decades ago, when the influx of Germans and Eastern Europeans arrived after WWII. Some of them dropped or shorten their family names upon landing.
I am asking this because I thought it is easier to Anglicize our names during landing.
Agree with others.
Land with your name - whatever is it. (for landing purposes they are not bothered if they cannot pronounce it properly).
Once in Canada, change your Name as you like it (if you think that it will give you problems to find work).
reality can be much less problematic. All you need to do is propose easier name for potential employers to use when talking with you (for example our asian colleages use them even in emails without any problems, but they still keep their official names).
