1 Year diploma Program but got less than 6months VISA and study permit

I just recently arrived to Canada and currently studying here. I applied for one year study permit but was shocked to see that I was given less than 6 months study permit. Is there anything else to do aside from reapplying for a study permit extension?

No. This is not uncommon. VOs may want to see that you are completing your work and not failing.

Did you defer your studies?

Not at all. Study was not deferred. It seems like the only recourse now is to apply for an extension of the permit which I think it's a bit no brainer. Paying twice for a study permit within a year.
