I’m waiting for a couple of weeks ( in the hopes that direct flights resume ) and also because I don’t want to be turned away at the airport for travelling too early as has happened to some people previously

Yep. Plus flights will get a little cheaper with time. I believe going like just 2 weeks before classes (actual course) begin is reasonable and safe
