You must be PGP2019 if you are asking about this but are posting under PGP2018. Not much you can do at this point. Will be up to the agent whether they accept separation and not include your wife in family total or they stick to the definition of not divorced means you are still married. Up to you whether you submit your application if you know it could be refused.
I don't know whether it will be refused or no and more based on all information I am more sure that it will be approved than refused. According to guide I am eligible and if there is different interpretations for the same in different years, then nobody can give the final advise except of immigration officer evaluating your case. So, in such cases it is better submit and lose $75 dollars, than not to submit And today the agent again confirmed that legal separation is equal to divorce for sponsor, and only when the officer will suspect something, then it will be investigated.
"Up to you whether you submit your application if you know it could be refused" this recommendation is not appropriate in this case.
