Hi All, I'm about to submit my PR renewal.
I have a few questions:
1. What do you think is the best way to submit documents ? Paper or Online ?
2. If you've been outside of Canada for more than 180 days do we need to submit a PCC ?
3. How long is it taking right now ( I do not want to trust the processing times posted on CIC website)?

1. From the comments I have seen in this forum, I haven't noticed any significant difference in online or paper application timelines. Online application is just very convenient. I submitted my online application on Feb 5th and still waiting for an update.
2. No need of PCC for those 180 days outside the country for PR renewal.
3. I am seeing some comments from ppl who have received their cards and It varies from 2.5 months to 4 months. YMMV.

Thank you, I have travel plans in 2 months, so looks like I have to come back before the expiry of my old card..
I'm planning to travel back 3-4 days before the expiry date of the PR card, Do you know if that is going to be an issue ?

As per the rules, as long as your PR card is not expired, you will not have any issues boarding a flight into the country. The border agent may ask if you have already applied for PR renewal or not. Thats about it.
You have not asked this question, but make sure your passport is not within 6 months of expiry. My friend was not allowed to board a flight from India to Canada because of this. His PR card was valid and well within expiry. He had to apply for Tatkal passport in India and rebook his flight.

Online application is terrible. That system absolutely doesn't work and there are nonsense stuff like returning application by stating the reson of return as "No photos" when it's technically IMPOSSIBLE to submit the application without attaching photos.

You’re right! Mine was returned after a month and a half for missing photos! A MONTH AND A HALF! I waisted my time waiting, and I need my PR card for work… it’s getting so frustrating to renew this PR card…

hello, do you need your card because you travel for work or because your employer requires that your PR card still valid ?

Hi, I am trying to fill my IMM544e. But when I validate, it doesn't show bar codes in the last page. Is that happening with everyone?
Also, couple of dumb questions. Do you not have to mail your original card with the application? I received my PR in July 2017. I haven't travelled outside of Canada since and even like 4 years before that. Do I still need to submit Residency Obligation?

1. No barcode with IMM544
2. You will just send a photocopy of your PR. You keep your actual pr card with you.
3. There is a portion of the application wherein you will put all the addresses that you lived in for the past 5 years.
hope that helps

You're an angel. Thank you!
Any one submit their renewal in February and get an update? So far I’ve seen that someone that submitted feb 1st received their pr card on friday (pr portal still says incomplete application)… and then someone that submitted feb 27th had their application returned today :/…
