I am a Canadian Citizen living in the US on a TN for the past 4 years, i am about to get married to my girl whose on an H1b in the US
I am thinking about getting married soon rather then later so i can start her Canadian PR process.
My question is what is the process and how much time does it take?
Anyone else out their in my situation?
Thanks
Mo
How long it takes depends on what visa office the file is processed through. As she is on an H1B, it could be processed through Buffalo if she was initially admitted to the US for more than a year. Buffalo's current average timeline is 11 months.
Thanks Charlie another question i have is that can i apply for her? Although i am living in the US and is their any documentation on how to apply in my case. I have been living and paying taxes in US for the past 4 years.
As a Canadian citizen, you may apply to sponsor your spouse for PR while living anywhere in the world. However, you will be required to include with your application proof of your intent to re-settle in Canada when your spouse is approved for PR.
Read Leon's first post in the first thread on this forum, it will give you an idea of how the process works.
Then have a look here at the forms and documentation needed:
