I recently applied for the renewal of my temporary work permit.
I requested the renewal from September 2016 to September 2017.
They just notified me that my request has been approved, but only until 15th April 2017.
I did not know why this happened, but then I realized that my passport is going to expire on that date :-(
Now I will immediately renew my passport, but I want the fully-year work permit from September 2016 to September 2017 as I originally requested.
What should I do?
Once I get my new passport, should I request a new work permit for the whole year?
Or should I apply for an extension for this work permit renewal?
Did anyone of you guys have this experience before?
After a long wait, I was finally able to talk with an agent at the CIC phone line.
He said that:
- I have to use my new work permit until April 2017
- I have to get a new passport as soon as possible
- I have to submit a new work permit renewal application regarding the period from April 2017 to September 2017, by inserting the details of my new passport
- Together with my new application, I have to attach an explanation letter in which I clearly explain the situation.
If everything works, I should get another work permit for the April 2017 -> September 2017 period.
