Work permit is about to expire

hello good day..

Im working under live in caregiver program and im planning to have my vacation for 2 weeks this coming november. There us one thing that bothers me. My work permit will going to expired by March 2016. Do I have to renew it first before going for a vacation or can I just renew it once I come back from vacation?
