Hello, Im at the stage where i need to finish the open work permit application before its sent together with the spousal sponsorship package. However im having trouble understanding one thing, can i send an Open work permit for my wife from "inside" Canada? My wife is a visitor here in Canada at the moment
Im asking because i can only find this application form "Guide 5487 - Applying for a Work Permit outside Canada"
I think i read somewhere that this can be done from "inside Canada" when submitting it together with the spousal sponsorship application, but i would feel much more comfortable if someone can verify this for me. I cant seem to be able to find anything on CIC about this yet
Yes, IMM 5710 is the correct for for a person applying for the OWP with an Inland application.
Here's more information:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/work/admissibility/open.asp
qualifying foreign nationals who have submitted an application for permanent residence under the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class (SCLPCC).
Officers will issue open work permits to SCLPCC applicants if they meet the following requirements:
a permanent residence application has been submitted under the SCLPCC, (this means an Inland, or In-Canada class, application)
a Canadian citizen or permanent resident spouse has submitted a sponsorship application on their behalf,
the SCLPCC applicant resides at the same address as the sponsor, and
the SCLPCC applicant has valid temporary resident status (as a visitor, student or worker).
If the OP is submitting an Outland application, from within Canada (which many people do) she would not be eligible for the OWP.
Thank you both very much for the timely and detailed response, this certainly clears a lot up for me!!
I have one more question about the application which was directed to me, specifically the "employment" section of the form.
It asks to give details on employment in the past, and asks what the current status is, and since my wife is here in Canada about to undergo the spousal sponsorship application, she obviously cannot be employed, so should i just write in "unemployed" under the "current activity/occupation"? I dont even know what date i would put in the box, since its required to fill in
