Thanks for your response

How many Days/Months it take to receive the "In Canada Approval Letter" after applying for a Bridging Open Work Permit?

Thanks
From IRCC website, the average processing time is 120 days but actually, no one knows the exact time for each case. Some people here waiting for more than 200 days.

Oh, that’s quite a long wait.
I also have another question—please reply whenever you have time.

My wife's open work permit was set to expire in July 2024, but she applied for an extension in mid-June 2024 based on my open work permit. She’s still waiting for approval and remains on implied status, with no updates yet.

I called IRCC last week to check the status, and the agent mentioned that due to a "group application," it's taking longer.

My questions are:
1. What does "group application" mean?

2. How much longer might she have to wait? It has already been almost 230 days with no updates.

Thank you

When will your work permit expire?

So I think it's just a matter of time to get the process done. You still have over 2 years with your work permit.

Hi, sorry, I forgot to mention one thing.

Previously, I had an Open Work Permit (OWP) valid until October 2027.

However, in November 2024, I received my PR.

So the thing is that now

My wife applied for her OWP extension in June 2024, based on my OWP.

In November 2024, after I got my PR, she submitted a web form to notify IRCC that the basis for her OWP extension had changed—from my OWP to my PR

She cannot get OWP from your PR.

Is she a non-accompanying dependent?
If so, you need to apply to sponsor her. And after the sponsorship application gets AOR, she can apply for a new OWP with the AOR.

In this case, normally people will just keep using the SOWP approved until the new OWP is issue (under family class sponsorship).

And your OWP is no long valid after you became PR. So I am not sure if she will get the extension since a spouse of a PR cannot apply for SOWP by default.

It's under the sponsorship application, not the PR status of the spouse.

Hi YVR123,

Thank you for your helpful response

I apologize again for the confusion earlier. I wanted to clarify the details regarding my wife's case when she updated IRCC through the webform. Here’s a recap:

1. I had an Open Work Permit (OWP) valid until October 2027.

2. In June 2024, my wife applied for her OWP extension based on my OWP

3. I received my PR in November 2024.

4. After receiving my PR in November 2024, I sponsored her PR application, which she submitted few days later.

5. After submitting the Spousal PR application, instead of applying for a Bridging Open Work Permit, she submitted a webform in November 2024 to inform IRCC that the basis for her OWP extension had changed – from my OWP to her PR application.

I am unsure what we did was right or wrong and also we have not received any updates regarding her OWP extension. It is still in process.

I recently spoke with an IRCC agent, who mentioned that it’s a "group application," which is why it’s taking longer.

Please reply below questions as well if you have little bit of time

1. I am unclear on what “group application” means. Do you know what that term refers to? And

2. how much time do you thing she has to wait for now as it is alreay 230 days passed and no updates i got from IRCC regarding her Open Work Permit Extention application

Thank You

This is a bit tricky. And I don't know a straight answer.

For point 5. There is NO BOWP for family sponsorship. PA can apply for OWP once the sponsorship application has received AOR. (notice with application number).
I don't know if PA in maintain status can apply for a work permit extension instead of a new OWP application with AOR.

May be you can ask others in the Family Sponsorship section. OWP usually takes a few months to approve but I've seen some that get approved in a month.
So the timing is hard to tell.

September 24, still waiting. Closed work permit LMIA-exempt through provincial nomination letter.
My PGWP expires on April 22, 2025. Today I received an email from IRCC extending my WP-ext for an additional 180 days.

The letter is proof that you are authorized to continue working for an additional 180 days from the original expiry date indicated on the letter (360 total days from when you submitted your application) and under the same conditions as your original work permit or until we make a final decision on your application.

I guess I won't be seeing that work permit approval for a while.

I got same email, submitted application on July 6, no updates. Group application PGWP+SOWP
