If you are on a closed work permit then you need a new LMIA and then apply for a new closed work permit.
What are the chances that my current employer can cause trouble if i go for a new lmia

There shouldn't be any chance of this.

No. Just apply for the new one. You can switch employers once the new work permit is approved.

You cannot look for a LMIA. You need to find an employer willing to give you a job offer and go through the LMIA process. If in Edmonton, the go door to door and apply for jobs online with postings that don’t say that only those with work authorization, PR or Canadian can apply.

There are no jobs or employers here. Focus on applying for jobs through sites such as LinkedIn and Indeed. Good luck.
