Work Experience and Academic Credentials for LMIA?

Hi Forum Experts,

I'd like to ask a quick question. My friend has no work experience in programming, and didn't graduate from a computing course. However, he taught himself how to code by studying it himself during his free time. If he finds an employer willing to hire him, and the employer has a positive LMIA for the job, is my friend eligible to take it? Or does he need relevant work experience and academic credentials to do so?

I think it's highly unlikely the work permit will be approved without either an educational background in the field or relevant paid work experience.
