Almost all indian mobile network have international roaming so all you need to do is activate it and enjoy though your bills can reach in thousands even if you receive a call and talk for few minutes.
And yes your whatsapp will work fine with indian no.
What i did on my trip to canada is activated international roaming and luckily i had free incoming sms so i used my phone as a pager and used to use whatsapp on wifi
yup.. its available on airports but make sure you have convertible charger because pins are different from place to place. In flight you can't use your mobile. you will asked to switch it off because of some frequency and all. In flight they will provide list of movies/songs/videos etc. which you can watch. so don't worry about all these things.
