How giving attaching both academic and general to the application would help?
Have you come across a profile that got approval with IELTS General in SDS? provide links, please

If I don't make a mistake, @wonderbly has been approved for SP with IELTS General but she comes from an English-speaking country.
For attaching both Academic and General to the application; Honestly, I don't have any proof about it would be a plus from the point of view of VO.

In conclusion, if you wanna play safe, just go for Academic for study purpose and General for immigration/work/training program.
