When to apply for Study Permit Extension?

Hello,
My study permit expires on 31st December 2021 and my current course ends on 20th August 2021. I'll be taking another course at Fanshawe starting 11th September 2021. When will I have to renew my study permit? What will I have to do next? Please guide me further.

Hi there,

To extend your study permit, you technically need to apply 30 days before the expiry of your current study permit.
Since your SP expires after your current course is over you’re good to go for the current program.

For the new program starting in Sept: is it at the same uni? Is it a single course or a full degree-granting program?
My understanding is that you can extend your current SP (instead of applying for a fresh one) if you’ll be at the same uni in Sept. You will need to provide a new letter of acceptance and supporting documents + explain why you’re seeking an extension.

Of course the sooner you do that the better since IRCC is very unpredictable especially during the pandemic.

You can apply for the extension by the date which your current program ends or by the date which the new program starts with the updated/new LOA and proof (Transcript, Certificate, a letter from the Department, etc.) of the previous program completion.
