You need 1095 days of physical presence in Canada for the last 4 years to be eligible for citizenship.

If you have them already apply whenever you like... now or later .

I moved to Canada on a family visa in 2011, do I have to wait 5 years or can I apply after 3 years for citizenship?

If you moved in as PR and no absences/travels since landing, you are eligible to apply once you completed three years, that will be approximately same day and month of this year; i.e. min. residency days of 1095 days.

It is wisdom to accumulate few more days/weeks to safeguard against any calculation/estimation errors.

There is no five year waiting as you said. Present requirement is 3 out of 4 years residency; which is expected to change from next summer to 4/6 years.
