what is family name or given name?

my complete name is QAMAR NAWAZ.....on passport last name come first so in passport my name is as NAWAZ..QAMAR.............so plz tell me what is my family name?..and what is my given name?....

Qamar is your GIVEN NAME.

According to my opinion you are the right person to say what is your family name. If you don't know, then your parents, siblings or paternal relatives may be know what is your surname. If your father and his brothers use suffix of "Nawaz" to their names, your surname (family name ) is Nawas.
In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh there are lot of discrepancies related to family names and date of births because previously there were no strict procedures or rules followed for birth registration and school entry records.

Pak, India, and many other countries dont follow the "Family" name paradigm.
I guess, no one ever tried to find that out

oh i see. now i know why my indian patient who lives here in the philippines didn't put family name when they filled up their patient's record.. ;D

Whatever is your name, LAST name is to be written as FAMILY NAME and its followed similarly on Passport as well.

We have started to write our names in Passports (at least) in this manner due to International requirements. Rather than telling everyone that there is no trend of Family name in our countries (90%), we just comply with the International requirements....
