I sent an email to process my PR card urgently as I need to go to my Home country. Here is the reply I got from CIC.
Sir, Madam,
Thank you for contacting Citizenship and Immigration Canada. I am pleased to follow up on your request:
New Permanent Resident – No Possibility of Urgent Processing
This message is to inform you that we have received your request asking us to process your Permanent Resident Card (PR card) urgently, but that there is no urgent procedure for new permanent residents. Please contact our Call Centre at 1 888 242-2100 (from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., local time) to obtain the current status of your PR card.
If the card is not ready before your departure, you will have apply for a Travel document (permanent resident abroad) at a Canadian visa office located outside Canada before returning to the country. The application is available on our Web site. You can fill out the application on-line and print it or fill it out by hand. The travel document is only valid for one entry.
Please note that a PR card or travel document is required for all permanent residents returning to Canada on a commercial vehicle (plane, train, boat or bus).
Thank you so much for sharing this!! You just saved me lots of hustle and money. I was going to land tomorrow and apply for urgent PR, will have to wait upon my return from vaca. I called CIC call center and spoke to PR rep and she confirmed that urgent processing was available only for replacement and I would have to go to visa office abroad and apply for Travel document (aka pain in a rear based on the check-list and considering PAFSO just reached an agreement, there is no guarantee on processing times).
Even with a valid multiple entry visa in passport, I wouldn't be able to come back to Canada without obtaining travel doc if I changed my status.
hello Everyone, finally me and my family we became Permanent Residents in September 24 2013 and we are just waiting for our PR card.
It is a very happy feeling to know that We can live in this great country...thanks Canada.
