Hey! You'll find everything you need to apply to extend your status here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

I extended my visitor status for 1 year last March, and I'm still in process for my PR. I'll be applying again and asking for another 12 months in February.

Top tip: Apply online 30 days before your current status expires. (I assume 6 months since last entry, since visa exempt) Be honest and kind in your application, have your Canadian spouse write a letter to include in your request, and you'll be good to go.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you very much.

And lastly did apply online or by mail?

Online, 100% :) much easier and they email you if they need anything and when they have reached a decision.

When I applied online I was told by a very kind CBSA officer to apply 3 days before your current status expires. Buys you more time.

Processing time when I did mine was 3.5 months. This basically meant I got my IEC visa before they even made a decision on my visitor status. Maybe don't leave it so late in case something happens, but I wouldn't go with the 30 day rule personally.
