Hi Guys,

Pls does anyone know how long a visitors extension application take. I applied to extend my stay beyond the six months allowed as I have a PR application in process. I came to Canada in August and my six months run out in February.

How long does the application take in total?

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's automatically extended now while your application is processing... you just need the visitor visa active while youre doing the applying.

Is it possible to extend the stay beyon 6 months while the PR application (Outland) is in progress?
I believe we need to exit the country before 6 months and that is the maximum duration one can stay on visitor visa on one trip.

You don't need to leave Canada. You need to apply to extend your stay before your current status expires.

But how can a visitor justify an extension request considering we mention while the initial visa application that we are employed in our home country and hence have sufficient ties to leave Canada before expiry of visitor permit.
Does not it mean contradicting the initial commitment mentioned during visa application?

I doubt it. I didn't fill an initial visa application as am visa free. But even if I had I don't think it will be a problem as people have done it in the past

Plans change. It's perfectly fine to apply to extend your status.

You must apply for extension of visa 1 month before the expiry. While you application is in process for extension your stay is valid until you receive extension letter or refusal which may take another 2-3 months.

I applied online through MyCIC for an extension back on Dec 1, and I received my one year extension Jan 9, 38 days later. Might have been sooner except for the Christmas holiday.

It's usually not a problem asking for an extension while waiting for PR.
