If you have a job and can pay for your expenses while traveling, you do not need anyone else's support. I'd say the purpose of travel is tourism. Not always they see that having a friend/relative to host you is a good thing. The chances they can think that you want to stay might be higher. Also it is not always the documents that the person sends but what they write in the letter of intention. You need to convince them!
