I am inviting my parents over for summer. They plan to stay for 3 months.

But on CIC website it says to apply for super visa the applicants need to "have valid Canadian medical insurance coverage for at least one year".

I am wondering why they need the insurance coverage for one year if they only plan to stay 3 month. I will get the insurance coverage for my parents for sure but only for the period they stay.

I want the super visa because it can save some trouble in the future when they do want to stay longer. I won't need to get the visa again.

But that requirement really baffles me. Maybe I should just get a regular visa for them? Not sure if they have the similar medical insurance requirements for a regular visitor. can not find anything on CIC website. Any suggestions?

Supervisa is for stays longer than 6 months.

Then get the insurance.

Your decision. If you want the Supervisa then get the insurance. If you don't want to get the insurance then apply for TRV.

If it is not stated then it is not required.
