Visitor visa for more than 6 months

I am noticing that there is an option of visiting Canada temporarily for more than 6 months under the visitor visa category. I was under the impression that the only category where a temporary resident can stay for more than 6 months is the super visa for parents and grandparents.

I am applying for my wife for a visitor visa with the dual intent of applying to sponsor her under family sponsorship. Can I select the temporary-more than 6 months option in the online questionnaire?

No - don't do that. Go with the six month option since this is all a regular TRV allows.

CBSA determines how long a person can stay at the POE but yes visitor can stay up to 6 months but ppl on supervisas can stay up to 2 years. You can apply to extend her visitor status or she'll have implied status if she applies for an OWP with sponsorship. If you have not received AOR I would suggest applying for a visitor status extension.
