Visitor Overstay

My wife is on visitor visa while i am international student here in Canada. My wife's visitor record is expiring on end of this September. I applied for extend her stay as open work permit. my question is that what if our open work permit decision comes after expiry date of visitor record. should she go back to our country before expiry of visitor record even her open work permit application decision pending. i googled about this and i read about implied status. is it applied on visitors? if yes then what if open work permit application will refuse during implied status?

Implied Status does apply to Visitor Visa. If the permit were refused, then she has to leave.
