I recently received our COPR visa and need to land in Canada before Oct. 22nd 2016. I want to go to Canada next month on an active visitor visa as a tourist. I don't want to use the Canadian PR visa (COPR) for this entry because I don't want my PR status to start next month and I need to live in the country for 3 years in the next 5 years. Is it possible for me to go Canada now on visitor visa inspite of having a Canadian PR visa?

Why do you need to live in country for 3 years out of next 5 years ? Residency obligation is 730 days (2 years) out of 5 years .
I dont think is an issue to be a visitor beforehand assuming you are from a visa exempt country not sure about a visa country whether the COPR cancels out a travel visa others will need to comment. You will likely need to explain to CBSA that you are not landing but visiting given your status will likely show up when you present your passport. As said others can comment and correct me.
^ I believe this is indeed the most likely solution, as I have also read a similar case like this on this forum, but waiting for confirmation as well, as I'd also like to know.
