Visit Visa- and applying for Permanent Residency

Hello All,

If my wife come to canada on Visitor Visa, can i apply for her permanent residency when she is in canada? Do she has to leave or i have to apply for her Visa extension?

As far as I know you can apply for PR for her while she is here as long as she is here on a visa or permit. I think she still needs to apply for an extension to her visitor visa while the application is being processed.

Yes you can submit the application to sponsor your wife (both inland and Outland which ever you choose) and if she is here in Canada she can extend her stay to live with you during the pr process.
If you choose to apply an inland sponsorship:
- longer processing time
- your wife will get work permit (approx 4 month processing time after u submit the application)
-she will need to maintain her legal status by applying an extension (rarely denied)
- if rejected no appeal rights

If you choose to apply Outland sponsorship:
- may be shorter processing time depending on her country of citizenship
-to stay here while the pr application is in process she same had to maintain her status (visitor status) by making an extension ( easy to get)
- rights to appeal the decision in case of rejection
