Sorry for interrupting this conversation but I like to ask: You are talking about background checks and their delays. When an applicant lives all his life in one country, has never been to Canada, what sort of background checks do they make?
I mean they have the police check from his/her country..What happens on those background checks really!
Curiosity got the best of me here!

hi messenger
I really don't know what types of checks they make but from what I've seen from hanging out on this forum for a year now!!! is that it's usually faster for women than men and it tends to be faster if your "history" is simple, i.e. a single address in the past 10 years. I am not sure what other type of checks they do if the person has never been outside of their home country but i'd assume that at least CBSA checks would be minimal if any but surely CSIS still gets involved for "unwanted lists" etc...
Congrats to those who got visa. And prayers for those who are in the waiting list ..like me
App filed July 2012
Stage 1- completed Sept 2012.
Medical July 2012
File Transfer April 2013 (I am frm Asian Country and my file was re.transfered upon request to vienna) thtsy took long time
Question:- 1) What does actually meant by File Transfer? Electronic or Physical !!
2) I am living in Germany.. Background Checks are both for my HomeLand Country and Germany? or only Germany!!!
1) I assume physical, stage 2 is when they look at all the evidence you provided.
2) multiple Canadian agencies will be involved in the background checks and duration/complexity will depend on the amount of information you provided to them about your history.
we've been using MP last 7 months,
they don't even reply to MP within legal time, our MP has to recontact them 2-3x before getting answer.
last thing they answered they were running RCMP (since Dec?)and couldn't tell when it will be done, since it's done by 3rd party.
Our MP said to file complaint with minister of immigration
I just completed my medical exam (I still had to do the X-ray). Does ECAs show you when the medical exam is completed? ECAS says since November 22: "In process".

yes ecas will be updated with "medical results have been received". This will happen once the RMO asesses your x-ray...I'm assuming you don't see that line yet?
Thanks, I will keep an eye on ECAS.
I don't see that line yet, I just completed the X-ray last Thursday. I assume it will take a week or so before Vienna receives the results.
Are there any other updates that ECAS gives? Like "Background checks". I'm just wondering if they processed my file and and completion of my medical is the last step, or that they put my file on hold and they will start processing everything once my medical is completed.

Where did you do the x-ray? wait times depend on the RMO, some people see an update quickly after they medical exam, my husband waited for two months before we got an update in e-cas.
There is nothing else in between "in process" and "decision made". Sometimes you will even get your COPR/PPR before ECAS changes, it is not very reliable.
I think they have already started your background checks and once they are done you will either get COPR/PPR pending that you paid the landing fee and that your police check certificate didn't expire/isn't close to expiring and your medicals are still valid.
My current visa expires at the end of June...I have no idea if I should apply for an extension. I will wait till mid May, I hope they get our case processed before June.
