I sent my passport to CPC-Ottawa for a PR visa this week. I don't have plans to travel to Canada right away. What is the typical validity of the visa? Is it one year from issuance of visa?
Permanent Resident Visa validity is one year from the day of issue. Ensure that your passport has at least one year validity and at least 2 blank stampable page for the visa. If your passport validity is less than a year, then your PR visa expires will expire on the day your passport expires. the visa will not start counting from the day of your medicals because CIC may still want to do some underground checks after your medicals, which may last for over 2 months from the date of your medical report submission.
