Chiming in at a high level. I used my PhD work experience for PR under NOC 4012. Happy Canadian PR for the last 4 years, waiting for citizenship approval now
Thanks for your reply. So I can use PhD with a scholarship to show employment experience. Is that still valid If I took 4 courses? I do have a letter detailing my Roles and reponsibilities as per noc 402

Hi, did you gave any updates for this please? Was your PhD under scholarship considered for work experience? I would be really thankful for your reply.
Hello all,
Very useful thread, thank you all. My question is if anyone used NOC other than 4012 for their PhD work experience? In the main duties of NOC 4012 it says assist professor to do the research, analysis of the results and preparation of atricles. In Sweden as a PhD candidate we need to perform all those tasks mainly by ourselves. We have our own research projects, do experiments entirely by ourselves and do most of the analysis and also the writing by ourselves, we are more like scientists rather than assistants (more like NOC 2121 than 4012). Is there anyone here who chose a different NOC for their PhD work and procceeded with the application/getting PR?
I just filled out my Express Entry profile, I put my work experience as 20hr/week from September 2017 to Jan 2020 as my RA work experience, and they said I am not eligible. I was wondering how did you guys fill your forms out and if you have any tip at all? THank you for your time!

Also my friend did the same thing last year and atleast was able to be put in a pool. I was immediately rejected so I am not sure if there is changes to the program. Thanks for replying!

I figured out what was wrong. I put the NOC for my current occupation as the primary NOC (NOC 2121 instead of NOC 4012). I changed it to 4012 and was able to be put in a pool. Thanks for replying!

So unless you claim it under Federal Skilled Worker Program, which I think you cannot since you study in Canada, you cannot use this work experience getting points under CEC.
Unless this work experience was after your studies, then it is fine.
