Hi All,
I have a job arranged, my future employer has already begun the LMO process, decision due c.mid December.
I am irish, os would be applying to London for the WP; however processing times are 24 months+, and I must start work in Jan 09.
Is it possible to fly to Canada with JUST the LMO, and apply for a Work Permit within Canada, while there, working?
If not, what are my options?
Many thanks,
IA
A work permit is not supposed to take 24 months but yes, as somebody who comes from a visa exempt country, if you have an LMO, you can apply for a work permit when you arrive.
Holy god.
Are you serious?
First though, thank you very much for your quick reply; CIC could learn a lot fROm your topics and postings on this site.
This news is very very important for me, as if verifiable then it solves a LOT of my issues with wait times, costs, etc.
Second, Forgive me, because i need to be absolutely certain of this: what is your basis for this information? can you quote documents/rules/websites?
Please note that I am not challenging your information- but as any sane person should do, i want to double check any and all information I find on the internet.
If you can provide references for your information that would be absolutely superb.
Thank you very very much for your time.
Regards,
IA

Eligibility to apply as you enter Canada
You can apply for a work permit as you enter Canada, but only if you meet the following requirements:
* you are temporary resident visa exempt and
* your job does not need a labour market opinion from HRSDC (some exceptions apply) or
*
you hold a labour market opinion from HRSDC.
To find out if you need a medical examination, see Medical examination requirements for visitors in the Related Links section at the bottom of this page.
Note: if your job does need a labour market opinion, you can apply as you enter Canada as long as the positive opinion has been issued to you before you enter (except for live-in caregivers and seasonal agricultural workers).
