!!!Urgent Help!!! - Open work permit with Ontario PNP+ Letter of support

Hi All,
I've got my Ontario PNP nomination letter and letter of support for work permit extension for 18 months. My Post graduate work permit expires in next 7 days. Can anyone please let me know how can I apply for Ontario based open work permit using this letter of support? Online or paper application?

Hi,

I think you can go to the border and apply for work permit extension, hopefully they can extend your permit right away. If that is not possible then do it online for as long as they received your application before expiry date, then you'll be on implied status until they'll send you your new permit, this way you can still continue to work.

You cannot apply for an Open work permit. With the Nomination and letter of support you will get a closed work permit with that employer, to get an open work permit you need to have already applied for permanent residency and have received acknowledgement from them( like file number or something). You can apply online like work permit extension and make sure you apply before your current permit expires so you can still keep on working under implied status until the decision has been made.

Actually I think it depends on which category of PNP. This is what it says on the website regarding the open work permit.

Temporary work permits for Master’s and PhD graduate nominees without a job offer
Masters and PhD graduates nominated under the PhD or Masters Graduate streams may be eligible for a letter of support for an open work permit. The support letters for open work permit will be issued to provide assistance to certain graduates who require a means of maintaining or establishing status in Canada while they transition to Permanent Residence (PR) in Ontario. The letter of support for an open work permit would allow nominees to apply to CIC for an open work permit in Ontario for the period of 18 months. Opportunities Ontario will be using its R204(c) authority under the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement and its Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Annex to facilitate the issuance of open work permits.

Who is eligible for a letter of support for an open work permit?

Ontario nominees nominated under the Masters or PhD graduate stream of Opportunities Ontario and whose:
Post Graduate Work Permit is expiring in the near future
Post Graduate Work Permit expired and have no other means of remaining legally in Ontario
and who
Have no means of obtaining legal status to remain in Ontario and have to go back to their home country as a result.
The issuance of the support letters for open work permits will be determined on an individual basis.
